Germany subsidizes solar EV charging stations – Industry News 2406

Preface
Germany subsidizes solar EV charging
This subsidy mainly targets home or residential charging, with a maximum subsidy of 10,200 euros, which can greatly promote the development of green energy and the popularization of electric vehicles.

Policy interpretation
Make full use of the space in the house
For individuals who own their own homes and have sufficient space, a private charging station that directly harnesses solar energy from the roof can be a viable option to charge their electric vehicles in an environmentally friendly manner. The combination of charging stations, photovoltaic power systems, and solar energy storage systems makes this approach possible.
Large subsidies
KfW, the German Development Bank, currently provides a subsidy of up to 10,200 euros for the purchase and installation of these charging stations, with a total subsidy amount not exceeding 500 million euros. Therefore, if the maximum subsidy amount is paid out, approximately 50,000 electric vehicle owners will benefit.
Subsidy conditions
Applicants must meet the following criteria. Firstly, they must own a residential property, as apartments, vacation homes, and newly constructed buildings are not eligible. The electric vehicle must also be either already available or at least ordered. Plug-in hybrid vehicles and cars used for company or business purposes are not included in this subsidy program. The amount of subsidy also varies depending on the installation type.
Expert opinion
“The new subsidy program for solar charging stations aligns perfectly with the attractive and sustainable funding tradition of KfW, the German Development Bank, and will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to the successful promotion of electric vehicles,” said Thomas Grigoleit, energy expert at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office.
