Economic benefits

At the moment, the conversion of Chinese gas stations into fast charging stations is still a growing trend and has not yet reached widespread development. The main obstacle lies in economic interests.

At present, the charging cost and efficiency of fast charging are not sufficient to support the operational needs of gas stations. However, with the increasing number of fast-charging vehicles, it is expected that in the next three to four years, the fast-charging business will be able to significantly improve corporate profitability.

Therefore, in the process of gradually replacing fuel vehicles with new energy vehicles, most gas stations will be able to quickly transform into fast charging stations to meet market demand.

Although the total number of charging and swapping stations constructed and put into operation by China Petroleum in 2022 is relatively small, the company has significantly accelerated its deployment pace this year.

By organizing large-scale public tenders for the procurement of charging equipment and acquiring companies like Putian New Energy, China Petroleum is actively expanding its market share in the charging field.

As the earliest state-owned enterprise in China to engage in charging business, State Grid New Energy has nearly 25,000 public charging stations. Acquiring this company will undoubtedly provide a powerful boost for China Petroleum’s development in the field of electric vehicle charging.

Previously, Sinopec had set a goal to complete the construction of 5,000 charging stations by 2025. By the end of 2023, Sinopec has already built over 6,000 charging stations, demonstrating its strong expansion momentum in the field of new energy.
